Networking Vista Basic and Premium

The desktop is on Windows Basic and the laptop is on Windows Premium. I can get the two to "see" each other but I cannot log onto Windows Basic from the laptop. I can, however, log onto Windows Premium from the desktop.

No DVD Codec for Basic Windows Vista

A funny thing happened...

Windows Vista, at Walmart anyway, is only available on DVD. So, I buy a DVD drive.

Fast forward a couple weeks later. I'm like, "Hey, maybe I'll watch Spiderman from my new DVD drive."

Not so fast. Just because I have a DVD drive doesn't mean I can watch movies. No, in fact, Windows Vista Home Basic Edition doesn't come with a DVD Video Codec, the software that's needed and apparently its still not available.

The road points to another upgrade. Microsoft used to ask, "Where can we take you today?" and to that I reply "Where ARE you taking me?".

Diablo II Installation

Funny, we just had a blizzard and today I installed Blizzard software!

Went through a collection of disks and found Diablo II and the Lord of Destruction Expansion Pack. On my Windows Vista system, I have a DVD drive and a CD-writer as well. During the first installation I would put in the disks as needed in either drive. The installation seemed to go well until I tried to play the game. Then, no matter what disk in either drive would satisfy. I reinstalled Diablo II and the Expansion Pack. This time, however, I used only the DVD drive for the installation. Everything seems to be fine. I just started the game and not played it yet. I read that the video on Vista is a bit clunky. We'll see.
